Google has rekindle its love for speedy Web searches with Google Instant, a new version of the search engine that displays results as you type.

When typing a search query with Google Instant, results appear after the first letter is entered, and they update as the user types. Marissa Mayer, Google’s vice president of search and user experience, said results are actually delivered “before you type,” because Google Instant predicts and automatically completes search terms.

According to Google, a typical searcher spends nine seconds entering a query, and 15 seconds searching for answers. Google hopes to shave two to five seconds per search using Google Instant.

Click to EnlargeGoogle claims that Instant won’t considerably slow down Internet connections, because the amount of data delivered for search terms is relatively small, and because the system only sends parts of the page that change when more typing alters a search result. For connections that are already slow, Google Instant automatically turns off, and users can also shut off the service through their user preferences or by clicking the drop down box to the right of the search bar.

She now resides in McAllen, Texas.

25 August 1971 – Thalia Sodi, Mexican actress and singer Mexican singer and former actress. Her name is linked to soap operas which made her famous. Thalia began her music career at the age of 8. Her soap operas have been watched by over one billion people in 180 countries. She is a multi-platinum recording artist and married to music executive Tommy Mottola.

04 January 1977 – Irán Castillo, Mexican actress

Castillo started her artistic career at the tender age of 7 years doing commercials. She took acting classes with Martha Zabaleta and Pedro Damián at the age of 12, and from that moment on began her career as an actress starring in the soap opera Ángeles Blancos in 1989.

She has acted in 15 telenovelas (soap operas) in her career, some famous are: Agujetas de color de rosa made in 1994, Retrato de familia in 1996, Confidente de secundaria in 1996, Preciosa in 1998 and Soñadoras made in 1998; she also participated in El Club de Gaby and the series Qué chavas.

She began her career as a singer in the musical group Mosquitas Muertas in 1991. She later recorded songs featured in soap operas she starred in until she finally released her first album Tiempos Nuevos and the hit single titled Yo Por El in 1997 featuring rhythmical ballads.

Tatuada en tus besos is the title of the second and last album that she released in 1999. In the same year, she had success with her performance in the musical comedy Gypsy opposite Silvia Pinal.

08 Dec 1977 – Elsa Benítez, Mexican supermodel

Benítez began modeling in Mexico, the United States and Europe. She rose to prominence after featured many times in the US and Italian editions of Vogue for Meisel’s layouts.

Benítez was selected to be on the cover of the 2001 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In the 2004 issue, Sports Illustrated reported Benítez’s story of nearly boarding the doomed TWA Flight 800–a Boeing 747 that exploded over the Atlantic soon after takeoff.

On July 2009, Benitez was officially announced to be the host of Mexico’s Next Top Model.

08 February 1981 – Myriam Montemayor Cruz, Mexican singer

Myriam is a Mexican Recording Artist. Her career began with the musical groups: Obsesión, Conspiración, Ébano, Liberación and Compass. But her dream didn’t come true until 2002. She was selected for the musical reality show in México “La Academia”, during each concert Myriam made the people fall in love with her beautiful and strong voice. During this reality show she sang : “Como la Flor”, “Mudanzas”, “De mi enamorate”, “Él me mintió”, and others. After 5 months, the reality show came to an end in one of the most important places in Mexico, El Auditorio Nacional, where she was announced the winner.

Immediately EMI Music call Myriam to sign with them, the contract confirmed 5 years or 5 albums, at 1 week of being the winner of “La Academia” EMI revealed her first album which was a compilation of the themes that Myriam sang in the reality show. This album sold 300,000 copies within two months, toping the Mexican charts and being the first ex student from “La Academia” to get an award (2xPlatinium plus 2xGold), at this time the album had sold more than the half of a million copies.

Her second album, Una Mujer, was led by the single “Sin Ti No Hay Nada”. This album included a song written by Soraya titled “Como Seria”, which was later recorded by the singer songwriter and released as a single. The album sold 200,000 copies and reached double platinum status. At this time, TV Azteca launched their first Desafio de Estrellas. Myriam ended up winning third place, coming behind Yahir (1sr Place) and Nadia (2nd Place). After the show was over, a special edition of her album was released with studio versions of several of the songs she performed on Desafio de Estrellas, along with two unreleased songs, including “Amor Secreto” which was later recorded by Paulina Rubio for her album, Pau Latina, this album again reached platinum status by reaching the top of the Mexican Charts.

21 December 1981 – Lynda Thomas, Mexican singer

She was first discovered by producers Carlos Lara and Tino Geizer during a singing contest in 1989 . The contest was named “Fantasia Musical”. However, Lynda’s parents decided to delay the recording of an album in order to allow their daughter to concentrate on school and to grow a little bit older. So the album was not released until 1996.

In 1996 she recorded her first album titled “Lynda”. From that album sprang three songs “Gira que gira”, “Blue Jeans” and “El amor no tiene edad”. Her first album would place Lynda Thomas in the limelight almost over night. She received an award from a top selling teen magazine ERES. The award was for Best New Singer of 1996 . Her second album was released in 1997 with the title “Un grito en el corazón”. Some of the songs included in “Un grito en el corazón” became certified hits over the radio[citation needed]. Among the most popular were “Dile”, “Bang bang” and “Corazón”.

Later on, Lynda Thomas and her team went to work on what was to be her third album. For 8 months she retired from the music scene. She only made a brief comeback in early 1999 to participate with other fellow artists in the recording of the song “El Pescador”. The song was created as an homage to Pope John Paul II during his visit to Mexico in 1999 .

During her absence, Lynda Thomas decided to move to Los Angeles, California. There she took English and music lessons. “Mi Día De La Independencia” was the title of her third album. Released in mid-1999, this new musical production offered Lynda Thomas the opportunity to branch out and experiment with different genres and musical styles. At least four singles from “Mi Dia De La Independencia” became hits[citation needed]. “Maldita Timidez”, “No Quiero Verte”, “Corazón perdido” and “Mi Día de la Independencia” are the names of the songs that helped Lynda Thomas reach new levels of success in her young career.

Ever since the advent of satellite TV there has been an ongoing head-butting contest between satellite and cable TV providers with regards to the actual channel numbers each can provide. The fact is, that satellite TV providers have always had the upper hand in this game of one-oneupmanship all along, although cable service providers have put up a good fight.

While during a few periods of time some years back some cable providers did manage to have a few more channels than the leading satellite TV service providers they were in analog format while satellite TV has always been entirely digital. Recently Dish Network upped its total standard channel numbers to 375 and their high definition number to 38, which tops anything that any cable service provider has to offer.

Whats more, DirecTV has shot its high definition channel number up to 72 with plans to carry 100 in the near future. Both of these service providers also carry a wide assortment of multicultural programming channels and packages in languages that touch on all four corners of the planet. Dish Network is the leader in this area and currently has 20 packages available in languages other then English.

While satellite TV service providers do hold the distinct advantage in total channel numbers, cable service providers do have the ability to provide on demand pay per view which is something that satellite TV providers still struggle with. While cable service providers such as Comcast have capitalized on their advantage by adding a second on demand service called Premiums On Demand that features more recent box office releases, satellite TV providers have offered their own pay per view options.

One option that they have come up with is a new “all day pay per view” that allows you to access your movie as much as you like for twenty four hours that begins at 6:00 am and ends twenty-four hours later. While you don’t have the movie on demand, you do have it all day and night as many times as you like. Today is Labor Day and you may have seen the American Flag on Google, or read about the Have2P app that is perfect for parade routes, and those that love getting a good deal on apps may want to take a look at the deals on during today’s celebrations.

Earlier today we looked at Best Buy’s not so good Labor Day Sale, although the site did work, which is less than we can say about Costco at the time of writing. Costco and Home Deport are both known for great deals on special occasions, and with today being Labor Day we expected to see something good.

Those that felt the same way might have been disappointed to get “The server at www.costco.com is taking too long to respond” or a server timeout message. It seems that Costco may be in big demand on Labor Day, so much so that their server cannot handle the load.

This has left people looking for Costco locations and store opening times, rather than seeing them on the “find a warehouse page” that normally works on the official site. It could only happen in California. A state famous for the dot.com explosion, expensive tastes, beautiful scenery, hollywood and………….The VP Sales Contest. Enter Ken Gora, the CEO of Next Productions and creator of the VP Contest, a 7 week sales and marketing tournament being held in 18 different cities that gets people jobs and earnings, creates sales revenue and branding for companies, stimulates the economy and is a pilot for an entertaining and educational reality TV program.

 I sat in Dr. Gora’s office in the beautiful Carmel Valley section of San Diego, California one afternoon. I wasn’t trying to start a new business or create an industry. I just woke up and in one long sentence in my head I knew that this was a way to help people, stimulate businesses and the economy and also have a program of entertainment value” shared Dr. Gora.

“The VP Contest is really a live sales and marketing event that is determined to find out who is THE VP, as in , the VP of Sales and Marketing or The Guru of Sales and Marketing” explained Dr. Gora. “I’ve been a corporate recruiter and headhunter for many years, have owned some small businesses and have hired many, many successful sales people for my clients around the country. I know that one of the keys to most businesses success is to have a team of hungry, skillful, enthusiastic sales people that are performing. You cannot be just a one hit wonder, you must show that as the VP you can do a bit of everything. Just like on Idol, you must sing well in a variety of musical or sales genres. And like American Idol, someone can come out of nowhere and win it.”

“You see, what I’m really doing is finding the many, many great unemployed people or those people who are working somewhere and feel they can do better and bringing them together with companies that are looking to increase their sales and branding. These people want to work, they want to make a difference, they want to show that they can sell or market. The companies gets the benefit of a motivated sales force that wants to compete and do well in the contest and they pay a small sponsor fee for the opportunity to have the sales force market their product plus the branding they get with the contestants and the media.”

It does appear that everybody wins that participates in the VP Contest and that if people are working and making money, and companies are getting revenue and producing more products or services, that all of this stimulates the economy. People who otherwise might be unemployed or stuck in a job that they don’t like, get to be assessed in the contest purely by their performance. It is the American Idol of Sales. Companies that are looking for cost-effective branding and sales find their products in new accounts and markets. Plus, Next Productions, of which Ken Gora is CEO of, gives a percentage of their profits to two childrens charities.

I interviewed a number of the contestants and company sponsors and they both spoke of the real value and opportunity the contest provided for them. One contestant told me that they would probably earn over $8,000 in commissions while being in the contest. Kristen Baldwin, the winner of the San Diego contest actually received two VP of Sales offers. One of them was with Next Productions, the other was with CUBA Beverage, a sponsor in the contest.

This was the type of success story that companies dream of. CUBA Beverage, a San Diego based company the manufactures a great tasting, caffeine free, herbal energy juice drink, entered the contest as a cost effective way to get a large sales force and branch into new markets. The contestants got CUBA into health clubs, restaurants, office parks, coffee shops, retail stores and.. the United States Armed Forces. Those accounts turned into a landslide of new business and ongoing potential revenue. Many of these accounts were opened by Kristen and she also worked on getting two large distributors for California and Mexico.

Other companies in the contest from biosciences to home improvement to nutritional products to gift items talked about the new accounts opened, doubling sales, and the regional and national branding received. “We will definitely be in the VP Contest again” said Jeff Adams, President of Starlines, a calendar and gift company. Earth-List, a green business directory and green product company, is utilizing the VP Contest for it’s national expansion and also as a recruiting tool to find a top sales person. Greenbo USA is using the contest to launch it’s product line in the United States.

What’s next for Next Productions and the VP Contest ?

“Something new keeps happening every week”, explained Ken. “We just announced the National Sales Contest which will allow people around the country the opportunity to participate in the VP Sales contest on-line. They will not have to wait for the contest to come to their city, no meetings, no cameras. Just sales and money to be earned. We have a number of sponsors lining up so that they can get the 50 sales and marketing professionals that are in the contest from all over the United States”

The Emmy award nominated Tyra Banks Show will soon be heading to the east coast after spending its first two seasons out west. The Los Angeles based program will be taping season three at the Chelsea Television Studios in New York. This move is like a homecoming of sorts for the former supermodel. New York has always been considered as one of the top fashion meccas in the world. It was a frequent stomping ground of the former catwalk star during her modeling days. Banks was quoted as saying, “I’m thrilled to be moving to New York… I feel connected and completely at home.”

Tyra also expressed excitement over the chance to reach out to even more people.
